I think Box Brown might have cloned himself. I’m not sure how else he draws so many comics while publishing and editing.
From the CollectionSixth Mass Extinction by Ines Estrada (2016). Published by Perfectly Acceptable Press. A sketchbook full of animals in pain and other symbolic imagery. #zineOaf by Mat Brinkman (year unknown, early aughts?). Very similar to Teratoid Heights. #minicomic #fortthunderStitching Together by Annie Mok (2008). I appreciate all the extra material Annie provided to give this story context. She has some reservations about it but I think it holds up. #minicomicCheck Your Stars by Jerry Riddle (1995). This is a rare one from Anchorage, Alaska! I had my own zine at the time. This guy discovered it and sent his zine to my PO box, as you do. I'm not sure I ever wrote back. I was a selfish teenager who didn't know how things worked. I guess this is the first minicomic I ever read--long before I knew what a minicomic was. (Or, I'm embarrassed to admit, how to correctly pronounce "zine"!) #minicomicBlue Hole 1 (1995) and 2 (1997) by Christine Shields. Issue 2 won a Xeric grant and has a cameo by Tony Millionaire. Really impressive art. She has a Jennifer Daydreamer / Dame Darcy vibe. Anyone know what Christine is doing now? #minicomicsOptic Nerve 3 (1992) and 6 (1993). I picked these up in a recent eBay auction. Thanks, Sam Henderson! #minicomicsLike Everyone Else by Alexey Zhulikov (2018). From the Russian publisher Space Cow. A longish (45 pages) story about friendship and growing up. I went home from CAB with a lot of Space Cow comics. A nice discovery for me! #minicomics #comicartsbrooklyn2018That Box We Sit On by Richie Pope (2018). Richie taps the child's voice well here. The images morph between reality and fantasy at ease. #minicomic #comicartsbrooklyn2018Bone Saw by Andrew Pena (2017). A nicely crafted mini. I like the noodle-arm cartoon style. Fun, a little goofy. #minicomic #comicartsbrooklyn2018Nate the Nonconformist Has a Rival by Stephanie Mannheim (2018). This is really funny and has a satisfying and unexpected ending. I love the wacky expressions and squash and stretch cartoon action. #minicomic #comicartsbrooklyn2018Please Be Nice to Me 1 by Vicky Leta (2018). The first in a series of comics about terrible tinder dates. #minicomic #comicartsbrooklyn2018My CAB 2018 haul. Another small one, since I couldn't get away from the table much. What a great show! But I'm happy con season is over. Three shows in four weeks is too much!Once again, I'm selling my dupes! Get 'em cheap at CAB. Table A8. See you tomorrow!Black Sheep 3 by Frederick Noland (2013). Some great scumbag characters in this. Funny stuff. #minicomic #shortrunseattleThe Mourning Star Zeen Team 1 by Kazimir Strzepek (2018). The greatest delight of Short Run was a new Mourning Star comic! Cool and crafty as usual. The story is about post-apocalyptic zinesters. Their zine is included in the comic. #minicomic #shortrunseattleMalarkey 2 and 3 by November Garcia (2018). Same acerbic humor but the art is getting better and better. #minicomics #shortrunseattleMy Short Run 2018 haul. A small one. I wasn't able to get away from the table much. Con season never ends! #shortrunseattleMy own personal mecca: the basement of Fantagraphics.Tin Crown 2 Walking Interference by Bobby Sims (2017). Enjoyed this one. Really funny. #minicomicGreetings from Seattle! I'm in town for Short Run. Just bought these at Elliott Bay Books. #minicomics
