This cover tickled me. I’m glad to see Alternative Comics is putting out Sam’s work out on the regular. Buy it here.
From the CollectionCold Heat Special 5 by Frank Santoro and Ryan Cecil Smith (2008). I missed the boat on Cold Heat but I really like this mini. Even without the backstory I could appreciate the art and storytelling. Am I going to have to spend some $$ tracking down some of the original run? Maybe. #minicomicMartin Peters by Patrick Allaby (2019, Conundrum Press). It has an auto-bio feel, and in some ways it is autobiographical. But mostly it’s a biography of a sheltered, nerdy teenager growing up suburban New Brunswick, Canada, and dealing with diabetes and first love.I finally bought the six-issue collection of Ginseng Roots, but I already had issue 1-3! (Anyone looking for issues 1-3?) Also, here are some Craig Thompson minis from 2000, part of Top Shelf’s Small Batch series.Paper Theater 1-4 by Ben Catmull (1999-2001). Really beautiful and smart short fiction. I have duplicates of issue 1 and 3 available for sale or trade. #minicomicIf you like my feed, check out @bestsmallpress too. Share the knowledge, share the love!I have too many comics! (Post 2) These duplicate copies are available for affordable prices. (Post 1) These duplicate copies are available for affordable prices. Dan Moynihan, Mickey Z, Roman Muradov. UPDATE: these are all claimed. SECOND UPDATE: actually, I found another copy of Muradov mini and I need to get rid of that one too! My duplicates have duplicates!I’m doing a deep dive on Silly Daddy by Joe Chiapetta (these comic are from 1995-1998). I’m looking for early issues if you have them! The trade paperback was pretty easy to track down. #minicomicRare sketchbook zine by Seth and Adrian Tomine from 1996. #zineDoris 19 (2002) and Doris 21 (2003) by Cindy Crabb. These zines are almost twenty years old, and Quimby’s in Brooklyn is selling them for cover price. Pretty cool. #zinesPrayer to Saint Therese by Alabaster Pizzo (2021, published by Perfectly Acceptable). Slice-of-life in a near future, post-Covid world. Feels very real. Beautiful printing and cartooning.Werewolf, a minicomic series out of CCS from 2010 to 2011. The main tream was Penina Gal, Betsey Swardlick, Josh Rosen, and Nick Patten, with a lot of guest stars. Pages shown: Betsey Swardlick, Laura Terry, Mannie Murphy, Melissa Mendes. The moon on the cover is glow-in-the-dark paint, stenciled on. #minicomicLook at all these great minicomics from the 90s! In order: A Barrel of Monkeys (Roby Newton, 1997), Fear Not (Jeremy Broomfield, 1999), Liliane Minicomix 9 (Leanne Franson, 1992), Deaf Date 1 (Jason Powers, 1997). #minicomicI’ve decided it’s time to pare down my book collection. These are all for sale at very reasonable prices. Well, Rav is very rare so I’ll need to charge a bit more for that. Good trades also accepted! Why do I have two extra copies of Duck Feet? Send me $4 to cover shipping and one of these is yours. The one on the left is a UK edition from Titan.I’m glad Barefoot Gen got reprinted but I treasure my original editions. The cover on the first volume: wow. I wonder who designed it? It’s from Penguin UK, the rest are from New Society Publishers.I enjoyed The Secret to Superhuman Strength, but DTWOF might be my favorite. These babies are available to a good home for $5 each. Check out young Alison Bechdel on the back cover! Cute!I’m going to focus on graphic novels for a bit, not minis. I love these old paperback collection by Lynda Barry. Am I missing any? The Freddie Stories is one of my favorite books ever, and it reads like a stand-alone graphic novella. If I remember correctly, it’s slightly different from the version that appears The Greatest of Marlys.I hate to brag, but I have an impressive collection of Melissa Mendes minis. I think I have a complete run of The Weight? I’m steeling myself to read it. It’s heavy stuff. #minicomicSorry for the lack of posting. I’ve been busy with American Cult, which is now officially published. (Pick it up at Desert Island!) More minicomics soon I promise! @desertislandcomics
